44th Khajuraho dance festival held in Madhya Pradesh

The week-long 44th Khajuraho dance festival began at the UNESCO world heritage site on Khajuraho,Dance FestivalTuesday in a glittering ceremony. Governor of Madhya Pradesh Anandiben Patel inaugurated the 44th edition of the festival by lighting the traditional lamp.The world famous dance festival will continue till February 26. The Khajuraho dance festival will include various dance forms like  classical dances, including Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Mohiniattam.

The Dance Festival is being organised by the culture department of the Madhya Pradesh government and will be held from February 20-26 at the temple town in Chhatarpur district.


The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) based in Paris.Some of its main objective includes  signing of  World Heritage Convention and to ensure the protection of their natural and cultural heritage,also encourage international cooperation in the conservation of our world’s cultural and natural heritage.establish management plans and set up reporting systems on the state of conservation of their World Heritage sites.

Khajuraho Temple:

The temple Khajuraho Temples are famous for their nagara-style architectural symbolism and their erotic sculptures built by the Chandela Dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD, promotes culture and art of India.

The six-day-long this Dance festival Bharatnatyam dancer Lakshmi Vishwanathan from Chennai, Bharatnatyam dancer Hema Tharuna-Kalaanjali from Chennai, Kathak dancer Mohini Moghe from Jabalpur, Manipuri dancer Darshna Jhaveri from Mumbai and Odissi dancer Kadambari Shivaya from Mumbai and many other performances by artists from across the country including Kuchipudi dancing couple Raja-Radha Reddy from New Delhi.
  3. Khajuraho Dance Festival highlights richness of various Indian classical dance styles.It was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and was organised by culture department of state government.
  4. Other than the dance performances ,this edition of the festival will also have a fete of fine arts called Art Mart, an MP Rajya Rupankar Kala Awards and Exhibition 2018, Dialogue on Arts – Kalavarta and Chal Chitra, a cinematic tribute to art traditions and artisans.
